NEW DATA has revealed that Clackmannanshire Council have installed an additional 280 CCTV cameras in the area in the last two years.

The information - which was obtained through a Freedom of Information request and shared by Ironmongery Direct- showed that CCTV cameras in the area had increased by a whopping 467 per cent.

It showed that, since 2022, the number of cameras jumped from 60 in the area to 340 in Clackmannanshire.

However, the council denied that the number of cameras has "significantly increased" and said that the data is "down to interpretation."

A spokesperson for the local authority said: "We can confirm the number of Council CCTV cameras has not significantly increased in recent years. There are 340 CCTV cameras which cover our public and civic buildings. We have added a small number of cameras over the past six years.

"The sharp increase in the figures may be down to interpretation of the data in the past because the overall number of CCTV cameras has remained relatively stable during this period."

Andrea Strong, Managing Director at Corps Monitoring, told Ironmongery Direct that she expects this trend to continue.

She said: “With the advancement of mobile tech, and the fact that it is standard to have 4G or more enabled smartphones, we’re now heavily reliant on captured visuals – our news, our stories, our lives are all captured on video, so being evidence-driven is the norm.

"Naturally, when it comes to people and asset protection, CCTV cameras play a massive role; they are our eyes everywhere all at once.

"With the pace of advancement in technology and the increasing threat of theft and damage, greater use of CCTV will improve not only the safety of our homes, businesses and assets, but our own personal protection.

“The increase we have seen in theft from both residential and commercial property will drive the increase in the deployment of technology and CCTV. Visible security systems act as a strong deterrent and also thwart anti-social elements.”
