A FOUNDER of one of Clackmannanshire’s most popular running groups was invited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.

Sid Pask, founding member of the Wee County Harriers, was nominated as the ‘local hero’ to represent the Wee County at Holyrood’s celebrations.

Organised by Keith Brown MSP, residents nominated an inspirational character from their local authorities to represent the area at the event.

Sid got to spend the day with the Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP, meeting the King and Queen Consort on Saturday, September 28.

Sid said: “I was privileged and honoured to be nominated as Keith’s local hero and was delighted to accept on behalf of the Wee County Harriers in what is also our 25th anniversary.

“Jackie and I really enjoyed the celebrations and the opportunity to meet so many local people from across Scotland who were also being recognised for the part they play in their local communities.”

Sid has served as a coach at the Wee County Harriers and currently heads the junior section of the club.

He has helped develop training plans for club members to complete the Stirling Marathon and Alloa’s half marathon.

Keith commented: “I was delighted to welcome Sid and his wife Jackie to parliament for ceremony marking the 25th anniversary.

“So many people are hugely deserving of recognition and I’m sure I could have filled the parliament with those from my constituency alone.

“However, in an Olympic year, I thought it was fitting to recognise Sid for his contribution to providing support and inspiration to so many young athletes in our local area.”
