THE WEE COUNTY played host to royalty last week as a member of the Royal Family touched down in Dollar.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited Solsgirth Home Farm near Dollar on Tuesday, September 24.
Princess Anne was on hand to chat to more than 350 school pupils and accompanying adults, learning all about food and farming at the Clacks farm.
Organised by the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET), the event served to showcase the work being carried out by the charity towards 8-11 year olds from across Clacks, Falkirk and Perth and Kinross.
Hugh McClymont, RHET chairman, said: “Having out Royal Patron join us on such a busy day, with the sights and sounds of children learning in the outdoors has been an honour.
“I am very proud of the work and effort put into this and similar events held by the local project coordinators and the fantastic support gifted by the volunteers who share their passion for farming and for running the sessions.”
Princess Anne engaged with pupils, volunteers and organisers about food and farming at Solsgirth, gaining first-hand experience and insight into RHET’s mission and the vital role farmers play.
Pupils got to perform tasks across stations at the farm, including pressing apples from the farm’s orchard into juice.
The juice was then added to a smoothie bike for them to pedal, making their very own Zero Miles Smoothie.
The waste produced was then fed to the pigs, reiterating the importance of no waste and the journey from food to place.
