A NEW partnership is looking to celebrate Black History Month this October and is calling for contributors for this year's national theme, Reclaiming Narratives.
Black History Month Forth Valley is asking people and venues in Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, and Stirling to help them reboot Black History Month and offer a small-scale programme across the area.
Chair of the group, Rebecca Northover explained: “The Hub for the programme is Brina’s Jamaican Kitchen in Falkirk and we are seeking artworks, ideas, and other offers of support to build an exciting programme that we hope will bring the flavours of our focus for a Forth Valley Black History Month: Telling Your Story together.
"The aim of the partnership is to create a space for local Black Afro-Caribbean people to tell their own story in line with this year’s Black History Month - Reclaiming Narratives.”
Submissions can be made to BHMforthvalley@gmail.com with any ideas, existing plans or offers of support, more information can be found here.
In Forth Valley, a developing programme including artwork, food, conversation and talks as well as reading lists will make it possible for a number of stories to be told.
They are now looking for submissions of ideas for events and participation, including artwork, over the next few weeks to help kickstart the October programme.
A range of local groups and businesses are working together to support the project including Police Scotland, Brina’s Jamaican Kitchen, local libraries and churches and Artlink Central.
