A RECENTLY retired Tillicoultry man was conned out of £3000 for a roofing job that was never done.
The culprit was 25-year-old Graham Dalton, of Brankholm Brae, Hamilton, who has appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court.
He has previously promised to pay back the money and was saying the same thing at the court hearing.
“How can he suddenly magic up £3000?” asked Sheriff Neil Bowie.
It would be a loan from his dad, the court was told.
Dalton admitted that between January 26 and August 19 2021, at Fir Park, Tillicoultry, he pretended he would carry out building work and obtained £3000 by fraud.
Depute fiscal Sean Iles said Dalton was working for a company which had given the man a quote of £11,000 to do roofing work.
Dalton then went back to the victim’s house and said he could offer him a better deal.
He claimed he was setting up his own firm and would do the job himself for £5000.
He asked the man to transfer £3000 into the account of Alan Dalton, saying that was his dad.
The work was never done, Dalton stopped answering the phone and the police were contacted.
At that point, Dalton promised he was going to pay the money but failed to do so.
Sheriff Bowie deferred sentencing until October 10 for repayment to be made.
