THE Wee County’s credit union is set to merge with its Falkirk counterpart to provide a wider range of quality services for members.

Clackmannanshire Credit Union (CCU) will be merging with Falkirk District Credit Union (FDCU) with the move set to be complete in late October this year.

It comes after membership agreed for the board of directors to pursue the move at CCU’s annual general meeting earlier this year.

The Clacks financial co-operative, which was established in 1997, said the merger will ensure people will continue to have access to the benefits of a credit union – one that is significantly larger.

FDCU has been operating since 1991 and has developed similar services but as a larger organisation, it employs four staff and does not rely on volunteers to provide a service.

Sean McGarvey, chair of the CCU Board of Directors said: “A merger with Falkirk District Credit Union is a positive development, providing credit union services to members well into the future.”

The Falkirk credit union was identified more than a year ago for a merger.

It offers a branch in Grangemouth which is open five days a week, a dedicated team of staff, a website with tools akin to modern online banking services and a phone app.

The board in the Wee County wanted to thank the community for its support over the years, all the way from when it was based in Tron Court and when it was known as Tullibody Credit Union.

As reported in 2016, the credit union moved to Bank Street in Alloa following a crisis which saw it being evicted from the former rent office at Tron Court.
