A BOOK charting the history of football within the Wee County before the First World War has been released.

Alloa Athletic historian John Glencross has teamed up with Stuart Latham to release the next book in their series – Football in Clackmannanshire before the First World War.

This book, the fifth the duo have produced, will examine what football looked like in Clacks pre-dating World War One.

John has pulled sources from his own collection and from information provided to him to compile a thorough history of pre-war football.

Speaking to the Advertiser, he said: “I remember when I was younger, it was hard to find any details of Alloa Athletic FC in any publications.

“Now, having teamed up with Stuart Latham, we are pleased to say we are doing out best to make sure reading about Alloa Athletic FC is more available to fans these days.

“We most recently released Football in Clackmannanshire before the First World War and it has been a labour of love.”

John got the idea of writing this book during research for his original release History of Alloa Athletic.

This charts the history of the club mostly from post-war through to the present day, but the historian found information about football in the area that pre-dated the war.

Holding it back, as it made the original book too long, he has now launched the pre-war book to inform readers about Wee County football.

He added: “A lot of data was found on the club pre-WW1 which I added to my records.”

In addition to launching the history books, John also runs an Alloa Athletic Football Memorabilia Exhibition.

This is a walk through history located at Glasstown House, which any Alloa fan can visit before games.

There, you will find match worn shirts, signed balls, programmes, recorded games, books and plenty more memorabilia.

The exhibition is open before most home match days. Anyone wishing to buy a copy of the book can order them through John at jgxalloafc@aol.com.
