FOUR Wee County restaurants and cafés have failed to meet food hygiene requirements, according to food safety records.

It means the quartet are required to make improvements to pass the next inspection under the Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS).

The four include a hotel in Alloa, a popular Tillicoultry café, an Indian restaurant set in a picturesque rural village and a golf clubhouse restaurant.

According to information from Food Standards Scotland and the UK-wide Food Standards Agency, the Mill Café, based at Sterling Furniture, received an Improvement Required rating following an inspection on July 16 this year.

However, the popular spot is already working hard to make improvements while working with the council to address issues, the CEO explained.

John Pattison, CEO at Sterling Furniture, told the Advertiser: “There are some small elements which have already been addressed.

“Secondly, we are making sure we’ve got best advice from the local authority so that our food safety management system matches their expectation.

“It’s also about staff training in some specific areas.

“We very much welcome environmental health officers dropping in and doing the checks because it makes us better, makes sure we are informed on all of the legislation to make sure people are safe when they are buying products from the café.”

The CEO said he was keen to work with officials to get the best guidance with the café looking to submit plans for improvements on the food safety management system this month.
