A TALENTED and hardworking student from Dollar is set to perform in front of hundreds of people at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The town’s Tatiana Kacmarska, a third year at the University of Edinburgh, is one of the cast in the musical comedy Malvolio’s Fantasy.
Put on stage by Zuzabella Productions, Malvolio’s Fantasy is a retelling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night with an intersectional feminist spin on romance and class.
Dollar’s Tatiana will be playing the role of Captain, performing for 12 nights in a row to an audience of around 140 people at Surgeon's Hall in Edinburgh.
The former Alva Academy pupil joined the team last December and has shown immense talent and an impeccable work ethic to be selected for the role.
Tatiana said: “I study English literature and classics at University of Edinburgh, having always enjoyed doing English throughout high school, particularly when we studied Shakespeare.
“I’ve enjoyed acting since primary school, where I played Long John Silver in our production of Treasure Island.
“Having gone to Alva Academy, there was no SQA Drama to take, so I did acting at the Macrobert Centre, which I really enjoyed.
“In my free time I mostly read or knit and crochet, which now means that as well as acting in Malvolio’s Fantasy, I am also somewhat involved in the making of its costumes.”
Starting today (August 12), the production will run 12 nights in a row as a zesty retelling of the gender-bender classic.
Malvolio’s Fantasy explores complex Shakespearian sexualities and social constructs through song, raunchy jokes, and campy costumes, melded with serious swashbuckling behaviour.
Focusing on the shunned but far-from-shy social climber Malvolio, the story follows him as he executes his plan to become a duke through a series of promiscuous romantic schemes.
