A CARER stole more than £3000 from a vulnerable pensioner she was supposed to be looking after.

Instead, Kelly McMillan helped herself to the man's money and has now appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court for sentencing.

McMillan, 43, of Blackfaulds Street, Coalsnaughton, was previously found guilty of embezzlement following a trial.

The offending took place between April 2 and June 18, 2020, at Station Road, the Co-op, Bridge Street, Dollar and elsewhere, while she was employed as a carer by Flourish Home Support Services, Alloa and engaged in home care for a man then aged 69 and now deceased.

By means of a debit card and PIN number entrusted to her, McMillan embezzled sums of money amounting to £3080.

The court was told McMillan is now on benefits and there is no realistic prospect of her paying back the money she stole.

Defence solicitor Kelly Howe said her client was a first-time offender.

Sheriff Neil Bowie said it was "a significant breach of trust" committed when McMillan was caring for a vulnerable person.

He imposed a community payback order with 300 hours of unpaid work.
