RIGHTFUL owners have been reunited with their possessions following break-ins in Alva at the weekend, police said.

Officers from Alloa have arrested a 33-year-old man, who was charged with offences, following reports of a male breaking into sheds in Minto Drive in Alva.

The break-ins took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 14, with police attending in the wake of reports.

Officers said in a social media statement: “Following excellent work by officers from Group 2 Alloa, a 33-year-old male was quickly arrested and charged with offences.

“The items taken were reunited with owners and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

The police force also shared a range of practical steps residents can take to enhance security at home and reduce the risk of break-ins.

Householders are being advised to lock all doors and windows securely when leaving home, deadbolt locks being particularly effective for exterior doors.

People are also being advised to install CCTV cameras as a visible for of deterrent and to capture evidence if a crime does occur.

Motion-activated lights and well-lit areas can also discourage intruders while keeping shrubs and trees trimmed can reduce cover.

Alarm systems, participating in or establishing a neighbourhood watch programme, reinforcing garage and shed doors and building goo relationships with neighbours can also help.

The police added: “Remember that no security measure is fool proof, but taking these steps can significantly reduce the vulnerability of your home.”
