STAFF from an Alloa fast food restaurant chain recently rolled up their sleeves in a bid to tidy up around the town.

Eight crew members from McDonald’s in Alloa, along with other helpers, collected 13 bags of rubbish after taking their litter pickers to the Bowmar area and Alloa Tower.

Lewis Jardine, community relations manager at McDonald’s in Alloa – which is operated by franchisee Elliot Jardine – said: “I couldn’t be prouder of my fantastic team for giving their time to their local community, ensuring the areas we all enjoy are clear of litter and we’re all proud to be making Alloa a better and brighter place for those that live here, especially as McDonald’s celebrates its 50th anniversary in the UK.

“We continue to put people at the very heart of what we do, and this is just one example of our dedication to being a good neighbour.”

McDonald’s explained its crew members have been taking part in litter pics in communities for more than 35 years, collecting all types of litter around the UK.

Crews cover some 5,000 miles each week on litter patrols.

The fast food chain said that since litter picks began in the late 1980s, some 260,000 miles have been covered, equating to the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
