THREE members of NHS Forth Valley staff have received honours from the University of Stirling.

Dr Paul Athanasopoulos, a registrar in public health medicine, innovation lead Wendy Nimmo as well as Dr Sharon Oswald, consultant nurse and advanced practice lead, have all been appointed as honorary clinical associate professors.

Dr Athanasopoulos has a passion for teaching and was honoured to have been recognised by the Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport.

He has been teaching on the university’s master pf public health course since joining the health board in 2021 and said: “Over the years I have broadened the topics covered within the course and used my experience as a public health doctor to enhance this material with professional learning.

“Going forward, I aim to build on this relationship and help expand the opportunities for students, the department and the faculty.”

Dr Oswald has been collaborating with the university for more than two decades, having been involved in developing the curriculum for both under- and postgraduate nursing and was privileged to receive the award.

She said: “I look forward to continuing this strong working relationship with the university and contributing to the ongoing development of education and training to help meet our future healthcare workforce needs.”

Wendy Nimmo was “absolutely delighted” to be appointed honorary clinical associate professor and added: “I am looking forward to building on our existing close relationship to expand on the work currently underway to increase research, innovation and quality improvement work which aims to improve healthcare outcomes for people who use our services.”
