A MUCKHART illustrator has been chosen to create flower-themed illustrations for a Scottish beauty company.

Lucy Deaner, who hails from a florist background, has been commissioned to produce illustrations for Seilich.

Products produced by Seilich contain handpicked botanicals, with Lucy asked by the company’s founder Sally Gouldstone to create eight illustrations for the skincare range.

Speaking on the commission, Lucy described it as a great experience, allowing her to channel her love for art.

“The commission was a rewarding experience,” Lucy said. “Sally is a botanist, so she knows the ins and outs of flowers.

“It was great to learn about the unique characteristics of each plant and bring them to life in ink.

“I’m proud to see it all come to fruition. I’ve always loved the beauty of floral meadows and think the environment ethos of Seilich is a lovely thing.

“I love Sally’s circular model, of putting the money back into growing more meadows.”

Both Lucy’s mother and grandmother were florists, while she went on to study a BSc in fashion buying at Manchester Metropolitan University.

She pursued a successful career in fashion and service procurement for several companies, all the while nurturing her passion for art.

“I thought the time was right to try something different,” Lucy continued. “I’ve always enjoyed art for my enjoyment and during lockdown I began drawing every day, that was the seed of the idea.

“It just grew from there.”

Her artwork caught the eye of Sally who heads the Midlothian based Seilich, and graphic designer Sarah Wardlaw, who commissioned Lucy to create eight original flower based illustrations for her products.

Lucy has incorporated bog myrtle, chamomile, peppermint, nettle, meadowsweet, wild carrot, wild rose and yarrow in her illustrations for Seilich.

“One of the key areas we consider is the environment,” Sally added. “We are reducing the impact of our packaging, by introducing a refill scheme so that the new packaging, which is already recyclable will have an even lower environmental impact.

“I adore Lucy’s illustrations and Sarah's designs, they really capture a sense of the Seilich meadows, and I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship.

“We wanted the packaging to look as amazing as our wildflower meadow does.”
