LIVE acts and a funfair ride were just some of the rewards for some 600 pupils who met high standards at Lornshill Academy.

Musical duo Saint Phnx, who were behind Scotland’s 2024 Euro song with Nathan Evans, and TikTok star Rachelle Rhienne appeared at the Alloa secondary school on Thursday, June 20, as part of a rewards day for the young people.

The day, which also saw a freefall fun fair ride and much, much more, was organised by teachers for pupils who met the highest ABOUT standards in attendance, behaviour, organisation, uniform and timekeeping.

It was the first time the school held a large rewards event, having held smaller ones in the past, with many pupils blown away by what was on offer on the day.

Phil Arnold, one of the deputy headteachers at Lornshill, told the Advertiser: “The rewards are designed to promote the positive standards across the school and it’s important to recognise those who have been achieving it.

“This was really a big end-of-year event that we wanted to do to really raise the standard for not just this year but for next year as well.”

All four house groups took part with some 600 of the school’s 1,000 pupils, minus the around 150 seniors leaving who already enjoyed prom, taking part.

There were inflatables in the games hall, stalls run by staff and a mini golf course was also set up among other attractions.

The day also saw two different music events with the pupils enjoying the concerts.

Scottish chart toppers Saint Phnx, made up of brothers Alan and Stevie Jukes, threw a gig for the young people while TikTok sensation Rachelle Rhienne, who has more than 500,000 followers, spoke about her career in music.

She also performed a fresh song called Tuxedo in what is believed to have been a premiere.

Both acts were more than happy to stay for photographs and autographs as well.

Mr Arnold, part of a group of staff organising and preparing the day, added: “It was great to have the whole school community involved on the day, all our janitors, catering staff, teaching staff, our senior leadership team were involved.

“The overwhelming feedback from the day was just all the young people saying what a fantastic day they had.

“All the staff commented on how lovely it was to have the whole school out there at the rewards event, enjoying the end of term, celebrating the successes and it was just such a fun day, so much enjoyment, so much joy the young people got from it.”
