TWO eight-year-olds from Clackmannanshire have completed a muddy obstacle course to help beat cancer in the wake of a devastating diagnosis in the family.

Emily Brisbane and her friend Annie Westwood, both from Tullibody, have raised more than £3,000 for Cancer Research UK after completing the Fife Pretty Muddy 5k event in the charity’s Race for Life series this May.

As previously reported, the St Serf's PS pupils decided to take the challenge on after Emily's dad, Andrew Brisbane, was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer a few months ago.

Emily’s mum, Clare Brisbane, told the Advertiser: “I can't tell you how proud we are of both these girls, they are absolutely superstars, we're so proud.

“It was a 5k and they were exhausted!

“A well deserved ice cream at the end went down well.”

The event saw participants climb, crawl and slide around a muddy obstacle course in what was a fun race at Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy on May 12.

Emily and Annie, also supported by Lindsey Westwood, took on the race amid a challenging time for the Brisbane's, Andrew’s advanced cancer having been discovered not long after Christmas.

Doctors predict the 46-year-old only has around a year to live with wife Clare previously explaining the family is just praying and hoping for the best for her “rock of a husband”.

However, little Emily has found strength from strife and decided to help by raising funds for research, visit tinyurl.com/24vt942w for the fundraising page.
