COMMUNITIES in the Wee County are being urged to join-in during this year’s celebrations of volunteers in the area.

The 40th Volunteers’ Week is set to go ahead from Monday, June 3, with Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface (CTSI) encouraging people to celebrate volunteerism during the first full week of the month.

The week will see volunteers come together on Tuesday, June 4, at the Big Plant Out Day event in Alloa to help spruce up potted platers around the town.

Groups such as Alloa in Bloom, The Conservation Volunteers and helpers from the local authority will join forces at 10am to help the town look its very best.

Thursday, June 6, will see the much-anticipated annual Volunteers’ Week Awards Ceremony where accolades will be handed out to those who help keep the fabric of Clacks society together.

Organised by CTSI, the invite-only event will be held at Tillicoultry’s Devonvale Hall with more than 140 people attending what will be one of the biggest ceremonies of its kind in the Wee County to date.

Throughout the week, CTSI will also be sharing the voices of Clacks organisations and what volunteerism means to them.

Groups and good causes looking to get involved are being urged to email CTSI communications assistant Amy via amy.mcintosh@ctsi.org.uk for more information.

Christopher White, volunteer development officer at CTSI, said: “In summary, Volunteers' Week is a time for communities across the country to come together and show their appreciation for volunteers who go above and beyond in the service of others.

“They represent the best of the Wee County.

“So, if you are a volunteer, then we hope you have a great Volunteers' Week, and from us at Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface: thank you!”

Later in August, CTSI and Alloa First will be teaming up to host their Family Carnival and Charity Fayre.

It will see a range of fun activities and entertainment with a carnival theme while charities will be out with stalls on Alloa’s High Street to showcase their services and volunteering opportunities.

This event will be a part of CTSI’s contribution to the Big Help Out, which will coincide with Volunteers’ Week from June 7 to 9, in a bid to raise awareness of volunteering throughout the UK.
