A TRIO of Wee County pupils have raised hundreds of pounds for a good cause with a unique walk to their school.

Pals Jack Kelly, James Reid and Kyle Ramstad-Sinclair, all 12, completed a walk from Stirling to their school at Dollar Academy with 300 colourful balloons in a bid to net funds for Maggie’s Forth Valley.

The balloons represented the estimated 300,000 people visiting Maggie’s centres around the country each year.

The young people explained they were keen to raise funds for the Forth Valley site as their families have all been affected by the disease.

Jack and his friends are also making a case for the good cause, which provides practical and emotional support for people with cancer and their families, through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI).

The walk, emulating the Pixar movie Up with the balloons, was completed on Saturday, May 18. And the trio has raised around £900 for the good cause through online fundraising and other donations.

Cristina Pouso, centre fundraising manager at Maggie’s Forth Valley, told the Advertiser: “James, Jack and Kyle have really pulled out all the stops and raised a significant amount for Maggie’s Forth Valley.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to them, their families and all the people that have supported their sponsored walk.

“It means the world to the team at Maggie’s that they’ve taken on this challenge and what a great idea to carry the balloons that represent the people who’ve walked into our Maggie’s centres across the UK for support.

“A huge well done to them and a heartfelt thank you from the team at Maggie’s.”
