Businesses playing a key role in supporting a Clacks community development trust are being recognised in a scheme launched last week.

Dollar Community Development Trust has launched its Business Friends scheme on Friday, May 22, to recognise those who have been supporting the ongoing work to provide activities and more to families in the area.

At a small event, Dollar Co-op and Harviestoun Estate have become the first two businesses to be recognised through the scheme.

Since 2019, Dollar Co-op has raised more than £9,000 for Dollar CDT through its Local Community Fund and other fundraising activities of the staff.

Harviestoun Estate has actively supported the trust since its inception in 2017.

It has provided operatives and machinery when needed, whether it was for erecting the marquee or preparing areas for planting, setting land aside for a community garden and helping with the maintenance of the Hive.

Stephen Roe, chairperson of Dollar CDT, said: “A community trust can only offer its services if it is well supported and both these businesses, in different ways, demonstrate the sort of commitment which makes all we do possible.

“I am delighted, therefore, to thank them and give a public acknowledgement for their consistent and effective help.”

Indeed, the trust relies on the help of volunteer and businesses, as well as the power of fundraising, to run the Hive, the town's former civic centre.

The building was successfully taken into community ownership in early 2022  using the Community Asset Transfer process and a grant from the Scottish Land Fund.
