PANTO season is returning to the Wee County, with the first of the Christmas shows set to go ahead next week.

Spotlight Theatre Company have revealed they will be holding a production of Dick Whittington, airing at Alloa Town Hall from Wednesday, December 13 to Sunday, December 19.

Dick Whittington revolves around the titular character as they travel to London to seek fortune, find romance and do battle with the deadly King Rat.

This marks the return of the annual Christmas show from Spotlight, with production team member and cast member Rhona Stark excited to be putting on the show.

“Dick Whittington is this year’s Christmas panto from Spotlight,” she said. “The cast consists of adults and kids in Spotlight.

“Some of our cast members are also members of Alloa Music Players and they’re doing their show and our show.

“A girl called Caitlin Smith who is playing Dick Whittington and she is also the company choreographer for Spotlight.

“Craig McCormack is the owner of Spotlight, he will be directing the show this year as well and I’ll be appearing in it as well as the fairy.

“Dick Whittington goes to London to make his fortune and along the way meets a whole host of funny characters.

“He tries to win over this girl while doing battle with the baddie who is King Rat.”

The shows will kick off at 7pm in the town hall and promises to be a fun, family-fuelled evening for everyone to enjoy.

Spotlight puts on a Christmas show each year, with the whole company coming together to put on a special show.

Spotlight is fully volunteer-led and relies on the donations from members of the community, with Rhona issuing a special thanks to everyone who made the show possible.

“Everyone’s getting super excited,” Rhona added. “we’re so excited to bring it back to Alloa.

“In the lead up to Christmas, it’s such a great family time and this is a great day out for everyone to enjoy.

“We try to get all the audience involved and we sing a few silly songs, plenty of jokes told and it’s such a good way to kick off everyone’s Christmas.”

“A huge thank you goes out to the mums and dads because without them, we wouldn’t be able to put a show on.

“The community has gotten behind us every single time and turn up whenever we put a show on, so a big thanks goes out to them as well.”
