A FULL-LENGTH production is in the works at Dollar Drama Club, which will mark the theatre’s first major show since Covid.
Club members will be presenting their version of Let’s Murder Marsha, originally by Monk Ferris, towards the end of this month.
The show is described as a fast-paced comedy about a housewife named Marsha who, after reading murder mysteries, starts to believe her husband is trying to murder her.
Featuring a cast consisting of Elaine Stark, Damian Sherwood-Johnson, Catherine Gibson-Poole, Andrew Bawn, Sandra Ballantine, Fiona Baxter and Stuart Salmon, Let’s Murder Marsha will run from October 19 to 21.
Speaking to the Advertiser, committee member Jane McGill said the club was excited to be putting on a feature-length production again.
She said: “We’re looking forward to putting on a new show. The last show we put on in the studio theatre was just before Covid.
“We haven’t been able to get back in there and do a full-length play in three and a half years.
“We’ve been putting on short plays and sketches since then but it’s going to be really nice to be able to put on a full show again.”
Let’s Murder Marsha was a short play originally written by Monk Ferris and released in 1984.
The Dollar Drama Club version will be directed by Linda Rice, with assistance provided by Elaine Payne.
Jane added: “Normally, people would suggest plays that they’ve seen or read and think they would be a good one to do.
“This came from Elaine, she will be playing Marsha in the play, and it was her suggestion for us to perform this one.
“We usually try to do something that picks up on a Halloween theme for the October show so this one’s got lots of murder stuff in it, but it’s also a comedy.”
Let’s Murder Marsha will be performed in the studio theatre at Dollar Academy throughout the three October dates.
Tickets cost £12 and can be reserved in advance either by phoning 07795 557544 or by emailing dollardrama@gmail.com.
The club has stressed that card payments are not accepted at the moment, so any bookings must be paid in cash at the door on arrival.
Refreshments will be served during the interval.
Dollar Drama Club is also looking for new members. Anyone interested in joining should contact the club at dollardrama@gmail.com.
