SCOTTISH AUTISM is celebrating raising over £14,000 at their annual golf day fundraiser, a new record for the charity.
The event, held at Longniddry’s Craigielaw Golf Course, is staged every year and saw the charity raise £14,626 to put towards their work.
Twenty five golfing teams took part this year, which sold out several months in advance, with Kavanagh Project Services’ quartet of Malcolm MacMichael, Craig Kidd, Douglas Kirby and Scott Millar coming out on top.
Karen Wilson, income generation and partnership lead, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the total we have raised at the annual golf day.
“It was a great event, with the weather gods smiling on us and everyone enjoying the competition and supporting the charity to raise a record-breaking total.”
The annual golf day event was hosted by Scottish rugby legend Scott Hastings, who participated in the golf and ran the auction on the day as well.
Karen added: “Scott Hastings was a fantastic master of ceremonies for us once again, and helped ensure the atmosphere was superb throughout.
“The funds we have raised will make a big difference to improving our new facilities in Glasgow and ensuring the people we support there have the best experience possible.
“We are hugely grateful for the continued support of SG Pro Cleaning in hosting the golf day, and for all of the teams who took part on the day itself.
“We couldn’t do it without them.”
The event is organised alongside Alloa-based SG Pro Cleaning who are corporate partners with Scottish Autism.
Douglas Smith, managing director of SG Pro Cleaning, said: “We had a hugely successful golf day, credit to the team at Craigielaw for their efforts. It was a fantastic venue to host us.
“We couldn’t do any of this and raise the funds we have without a few key components, our sponsors, teams who entered, auction and raffle donations – some of which are the best we have ever had.
“The team behind the scenes who plan the event and delivered the best total we have ever raised.
“Big thanks also to Scott Hastings for being with us again, we are discussing securing a date for next year with Craigielaw where we will look to evolve the golf day and make it bigger and better still.”
