A GROUP of Wee County men working to improve mental health in the community have received praise for their efforts during a visit last week.

Forth Valley Men's Shed, based in Alloa, has added several items to its walls where the array of accolades is starting to look impressive.

The good cause's chair Kenny Quinn was recently named Community Champion of the Year, an award handed out by the Clackmannanshire Lieutenancy and replacing the former Citizen of the Year award.

The shed was also named Community Group of the Year at the recent Volunteers' Week Awards run by Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface (CTSI).

To top it all off, MSP Alexander Stewart, who previously mounted a campaign to reinstate funding for sheds across the country, congratulated the group on the achievements through parliamentary motions, which gained cross-party support.

Laminated, signed versions of the motions were delivered to the shed by the politician during a recent visit, adding to the growing array of accolades.

Mr Stewart said: "These motions, I am delighted to confirm, received much cross-party support and today I was equally pleased to visit the Forth Valley Men's Shed team again to present them with Scottish Parliament-branded, signed and laminated versions of these motions to accompany their CTSI Awards.

"It was wonderful to visit the team again and I am immensely grateful to everyone there for their very warm welcome.

"What they are able to accomplish within the workshop environment and how much of a benefit the Men's Shed is to everyone's wellbeing and morale are priceless assets and I was only too pleased to recognise these fantastic achievements in parliament."
