THE Forth Valley Recovery Olympics returned for a second year in a row last month, with over 400 participants taking part.
Held at Forthbank Stadium, the games day is held by Forth Valley Recovery Community (FVRC) in partnership with Active Stirling.
The event places an importance on recovery through sport, holding a number of events including the sack race, egg and spoon race, fancy dress relays and three-legged sprints.
The 2023 event unfortunately had to be cut short, as adverse weather conditions intensified following the track events, meaning the hungry hippo and tug of war events could not go ahead.
Despite this, teams excelled at the events on offer, with FVRC Team 1 winning the Olympic games after securing 74 points.
Team Hope came in second place with 54 points and Phoenix Fire ended the games in third with 51 points.
Tom Gebbie, community activation officer with Active Stirling, said: “I have worked with FVRC for many years now and the Olympics is always a highlight for everyone involved.
“Active Stirling are dedicated to supporting FVRC through their recovery journeys using sport as a driver for change and this event is a brilliant way to celebrate everyone’s progress.
“It was great to see so many recovery communities and their support services attending the event, with a record 33 teams entered and celebrating recovery sport in Scotland.
“It was a shame we had to cancel the event early due to the weather but hopefully we can build on this event for future years.
“Well done to the top three teams, and to everyone who took part on the day! We look forward to hosting this event again next year and hopefully we will continue to develop and grow what is turning into such a successful national event.”
