THE Wee County will be split across two freshly drawn up UK Parliament constituencies amid “odd" changes to area boundaries.
Amendments were put forth via the recommendations by the Boundary Commission for Scotland, which has concluded its 2023 review.
Under the review, most of Clackmannanshire, which currently falls into Ochil and South Perthshire, will fall into the new Alloa and Grangemouth county constituency.
The towns of Clackmannan, Dollar and the surrounding hamlets will, however, be part of the new Dunfermline and Dollar county constituency which also includes Kincardine, Saline, Valleyfield and other areas to the east.
The recommendations, following a string of consultations, have been laid in front of Westminster on June 28.
Within a four-month period, the UK Government must submit an order to the Privy Council that gives them effect.
It is understood the changes are likely to be in place for the next general election, which will be held no later than January 28 in 2025.
MP John Nicolson, who currently represents the area in Ochil and South Perthshire, said he will be sad to lose many communities he has represented since 2019.
He also highlighted that Scotland's representation will be reduced from 59 seats to 57.
The MP, who looks set to contest the Alloa and Grangemouth seat, told the Advertiser: “Scotland finds its representation cut yet again with these boundary changes.
“And there are some odd boundary changes.
“I will certainly be sad to lose many communities I’ve represented since 2019.
“But I look forward to continuing to represent the people of Alloa.
“And I much look forward to representing Grangemouth if elected again to the next parliament.”
The MP originally launched a consultation on the changes when they were first drafted in 2021.
Back then, Clacks would have joined the Mid Forth Valley constituency, along with parts of Falkirk.
Ochil and South Perthshire has a relatively large electorate of just over 80,000.
Mid Forth Valley would have had an electorate of 74,126 and this was later revised to a Clackmannanshire and Forth Valley constituency with 77,046 voters.
The final Alloa and Grangemouth area, which also includes Larbert and Stenhousemuir, will have 72,265 electors while Dunfermline and Dollar will have nearly 71,000.
As set out in legislation, the Boundary Commission had to ensure constituencies have between 69,724 and 77,062 electors with a maximum area of 13,000 sqkm.
Lord Matthews, deputy chair of the commission for Scotland, said: “We believe our final recommendations meet the requirements of the legislation governing the review and within those constraints fairly reflect the views expressed to us during our consultations.”
