HUNDREDS of boxes of warm clothing, food including infant formula and other essentials are making their way to Ukraine from Clackmannanshire.
Volunteers behind Clacks Ukraine Support last week loaded a lorry up with several tonnes of goods collected over the last couple of weeks and months.
With help from Clackmannanshire Council, the boxes first made their way to Perth before setting off for the war-torn city of Kharkiv via a Polish charity.
It is understood some 500 boxes of winter clothing for men, women, children and babies, 22 boxes of toiletries, 28 boxes of nappies, 20 boxes of baby milk and much more were included in the aid package – items having been collected at Marshill House in Alloa and Café Ukraine in Dollar.
Alloa's Karolina Juszczyk, who hails from Poland, has been a key organiser for the effort since day one, with the one-year anniversary of Russia's military invasion just around the corner.
She recently issued an urgent appeal for baby milk before the pallets of goods left and thanked the Wee County for its generosity following a great response.
While Karolina admitted some people are “getting tired” of the war with the one year anniversary on the horizon, she said: “We can't get tired [of the war] because it's about all of our freedoms, it's about democracy and we need to keep going until we get peace.
“Since Putin attacked Ukraine, a lot of other dictators are starting to become a problem, they take the example of Russia.
“This is why we can't get tired of helping Ukraine at the moment, if Ukraine wins then the other dictators will step back.”
She was happy to see the aid leave Alloa, knowing it will help the proud people of Ukraine and thanked everyone involved.
The items are on their way to Kharkiv, also known as Kharkov, the second-largest city and municipality in Ukraine, which has reportedly been targeted by artillery, rockets and missiles.
This Friday, February 24, will see exactly a year since the invasion began.
Clacks Ukraine Support is inviting Wee County citizens to the Wimpy Park in Alloa on the day.
People will be able to show their support during the Bright the Sky for Ukraine event from 7pm.
It will be a chance to reflect on the gravity of the war, to talk about support efforts and hear a summary of last year's activities while looking into the future.
