TWO Wee County dancers are looking to fulfil their dreams as they head to Disneyland Paris for an upcoming competition.
Heather Breingan, 24, and Rebecca Watson, 23, have been selected to star on the ChoreoMagic show, organised by Take Us 2 The Magic, on Sunday, March 5.
The girls, both from Alva, will perform in the competition in the French capital and have also been selected to participate in the Disneyland parade alongside their teacher, Clarissa Anderson.
Heather and Rebecca have been dancing from a young age, becoming pupils at Janet Snape Highland Dance before moving over to Clarissa Rose Highland Dance at Alva Parklands Centre.
The girls spoke to the Advertiser and said they are excited to take part in the biggest show of their lives.
“I’m super excited and I just can’t wait to go,” Rebecca said. “It’s a new opportunity and we’ve never done anything like this before.
“It’ll be good to get away and make some new memories in Paris. Dancing in the parade is a dream come true as well.”
Heather said: “So much time and effort went into getting there so to get accepted just makes me feel proud that our hard work is paying off.
“I’m looking forward to doing this and finishing my dancing career in Paris, this will be a good way to end it.”
The competition rules allow for entrants to choreograph their own routines but insist it must incorporate Disney.
Heather and Rebecca discussed their ideas with Clarissa and eventually they settled on Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from 1964’s Mary Poppins.
Clarissa will be joining the girls in the Disneyland pre-parade routine, which she described as an unparalleled experience.
She said: “I’m over the moon for the girls and to get the chance to be watched by so many people – it will just be amazing for them. I’m quite jealous I’m not up there with them!
“This competition is a once in a lifetime opportunity as the organisers mentioned this may be the last time the run the show due to changes to Disneyland policies.
“I’m really proud and honoured that we’re able to take a couple people over to Paris.”
Covid restrictions forced the competition to go on hiatus with this year hosting the long awaited return of the show.
Disneyland Paris is currently in the process of reviewing its policies, which may see large groups of dancers unable to perform at the iconic tourist attraction.
