ANIMAL lovers across Clacks are being sought to provide crucial donations to the Scottish SPCA ahead of orphan season.

The charity is appealing to people to donate puppy milk, heat pads and teats to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross.

The wildlife hospital looks after hundreds of orphaned animals each year including foxes, otters, deer and badgers.

April Dodds, Fishcross centre assistant manager, said: “We are preparing for orphan season and the main thing we are in need of is puppy milk.

“We also need other supplies so that we can rehabilitate animals like Pelly the badger who came in to our care weighing just 72g.

“She was found by a farmer after his dogs began barking at some hay bales. When he lifted the bales, he was shocked to find a mother badger and her cubs.

“The cubs must have just been born as they weren’t there the previous night.

“Pelly was so cold without her family that she was almost unresponsive. Our animal rescue officer thought she was dead.”

Pelly was successfully treated at Fishcross and reintegrated with a family of badgers. Following eight months of treatment, Pelly was released at a site with supported feeding with the rest of her family.
