THE Wee County has displayed extreme levels of kindness and generosity as the community came together to help support a family after a devastating house fire.
Residents have been turning out in their numbers to help provide kitchen appliances and clothes following an appeal launched by Forth Valley Radio.
The mother and her two sons, who do not wish to be named, lived in the flat above Little India before a fire broke out earlier this month.
Fortunately, nobody was harmed in the blaze, but it is reported that all their possessions were destroyed, leaving them with virtually nothing.
The appeal was started by Llinos Jane Williams and her partner Stephen McFarlane, who are both part of Forth Valley Radio station.
They say the response has been terrific and they are overwhelmed with the generosity the community has shown.
“They were left with absolutely nothing,” Stephen told the Advertiser. “All they had was the clothes they had on and one other set.
“The local community has come together in droves and supplied beds, fridges, storage units and we’ve got some drivers working to pick things up.
“The whole community has just come together fantastically well, we just wanted to help a family in need.”
Forth Valley Radio put up a post on Facebook on January 16 and, at the time of writing, has been shared 252 times with over 100 comments from people offering their help.
Their post outlines the incident and asks “if you find yourself in a position that you could help, the family would be grateful for any contribution.”
The appeal goes on to say that the family are not looking for money – instead they are in need of clothes and kitchen appliances.
The fire broke out in the takeaway unit on January 9, causing damage to the home above.
A statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: "Crews were met with a well-developed fire which had taken hold within the commercial premises and was affecting the first floor of the residential building above.
"There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe."
Little India has remained closed since the incident but confirmed that they will be reopening again soon.
Anybody with any items can hand them into Forth Valley Radio at 63 High Street, Tillicoultry and can contact Llinos for more information.
