A SAUCHIE cat owner was “shocked” to see their pet has been shaved while the feline was out and about.
The Scottish SPCA has launched an appeal for information in the wake of the incident, which was reported in May.
And the animal welfare charity explained there have been several reports of similar incidents in the area, with some areas of fur shaved off of several pets.
It comes after a caller reported that their mother's long-haired cat had been shaved along the stomach, rear end and legs.
Mairi Wright, Scottish SPCA inspector, said: “On May 12, we received a report from a member of the public who was shocked to see that their mother’s female long-haired cat had returned home with areas of her fur shaved.
“After posting about the incident on social media, they discovered that several other neighbours have experienced the same thing.
“We would urge anyone who has experienced something similar to report the incident to our confidential helpline.
“We understand that someone may think they are helping the cats stay cool as the weather warms up, or be trying to remove matted fur but this is not the proper way to do it.
“If anyone has had this happen to their pet or has any information on this incident they can contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
