ALLOA Boxing Club held their first annual home show in three years recently.
Eleven local fighters took the brave steps through the ropes in a sold out event at Alloa Town Hall.
First up was 14-year-old Kyran Ramsay in an exhibition contest. The youngster handled the occasion brilliantly and has a bright future ahead.
Next up was 13-year-old Cailean Miller who put in a career best performance, landing three and four punch combinations and showing his silky footwork against a tough opponent. Cailean put the pressure on in the final round forcing the referee to step in and save his opponent from further punishment.
Eva Hynd made her debut against Lillie Rose and the 11-year-old had the crowd in awe of her boxing ability, landing combinations to the head and body to run out a clear winner.
Another debutant was 17-year-old Demi Lee Brand, who fought a more experienced girl in one of the fights of the night, losing on a close point decision.
Current Scottish Champion William Boyle put in another brilliant performance to run out a clear winner and the 13-year-old is currently having assessments with the Scotland squad and will find out this week if he will represent Scotland at the GB Championships.
Grame Beveridge had been training hard for his fight and the 40-year-old was up against an opponent half his age. He put in a good effort against a tough opponent and lost on a point decision.
Matty Keir then got Alloa back to winning ways before two time Scottish champion Lennon Murray lost on a close decision.
Luca Allison also put in a brilliant display of boxing, controlling the fight with his jab but, to the amazement of the crowd, he lost on a split decision.
Middle weight Richard McDonald won on all judges’ score cards, catching his smaller aggressive opponent with nice counter punching .
Top of the bill was big hitting Blair Lapslay in the 86kg category. Winning all his previous fights by knockout, he was up against the undefeated Michael Gardner.
Blair boxed brilliantly and won the first round 3-0. Michael came out the traps flying in round two and won that round 3-0.
With the fight going to the final round, Blair landed heavy shots before a left hook dropped Michael but still lost the last round 2-1.
The club would like to thank matchmaker Liam Ross who matched the team up with good 50/50 bouts and also thank the sponsors of the night.
They would also like to thank the 400 fans who turned out to support the team on the night.
