AN INSPIRING Wee County youngster has used a yearly clear out as the fuel to start a toy collection for Ukrainian children coming to Scotland.
Mia Rennie has a clear out every year before her birthday and Christmas.
The eight-year-old, who attends Redwell Primary School, usually gives her toys to charity shops across Clacks.
However, this year she’s decided to do something a bit different.
Natalie, Mia’s mum, told the Advertiser: “We were just in tidying her room on Sunday and I had said to her she’ll need to start thinking about clearing out some of her toys.
“We normally give [her toys] to charity shops and she asked if we could give them to the Ukrainian children that are coming over that don’t have anything.
“I told her that was a great idea and, we were actually struggling to find somewhere to donate them to on the Sunday, she said we could collect them and anyone that comes to Alloa we could give it to them.
“It just happened from there.”
Enquiries came flooding in, with Natalie receiving plenty of messages and friends and family sharing her post on Facebook.
Natalie continued: “I’ve always taught her that there are people that are worse off than us.
“She’s really lucky and fortunate so ever since she was small we always clear out her toys before her birthday and Christmas and we take them to the charity shop.
“It makes her feel good knowing that other children are going to get to play with them.”
Natalie continued: “Every day she’s asking if people have messaged. She’s really excited about it.
“Her school knows she’s doing it and they’re sharing her story. Everyone’s really proud of her.
“I am going to get in touch with local councillors so these toys can be donated to any families coming to Clackmannanshire and the surrounding areas.
“This is all Mia’s idea, I have never been more proud of her.”
Mia and Natalie are still collecting toys to give to youngsters arriving from their war-torn homeland.
Anyone who would like to donate to their toy drive can search for Natalie Rennie on Facebook and give her a message.
