PUPILS from Wee County primary schools recently competed in the annual cross country championships.
The Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association annual events programme 2021-2022 consists of a wide range of events for pupils from Clackmannanshire primary schools to take part in both, on their own school grounds and in person central events.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the association was unable to resume the usual events programme where pupils would meet in large numbers to participate in events.
In September this year, each primary school set up a one mile course on their own schools grounds for pupils in P5-P7.
Pupils were offered the chance to record their times and submit them to a central source in Sports Development.
This event saw more than 1,250 pupils taking part in the one mile course on their school grounds across all primary schools in Clackmannanshire.
The top runner in each age group was then invited to represent their school at the first in person central event of 2021 on Thursday, October 28.
More than 100 pupils from P5-P7 represented their schools at the championships at West End Park, Alloa, and completed the one mile route within their age group.
A spokesperson for the council's Sports Development team said: "A massive congratulations goes out to each runner for their outstanding effort and dedication displayed at the event and the virtual events on their own school grounds.
"A particular well done to our top three medallists in each of our races.
"The council's Sports Development team would like to thank all the parents, carers, teachers and school staff who supported the runners in their preparation for the event and at the event itself.
"Many thanks [also] go to the local athletics clubs Wee County Harriers and Central Athletics for assisting at the event, and also Scottish Athletics volunteers."
Sports Development run two athletics classes at Lornshill Academy on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5-6pm for five to eight year olds.
