FUN family events are returning to Dollar following a quiet year brought on by Covid restrictions.
Organisers Dollar Community Events have last week announced the return of their popular Duck Race and hopes are high that it is just the beginning of a string of activities to feature in the town's calendar.
The ever-popular Dollar Duck Race, which will once again see a thousand rubber ducks dash down Dollar Burn, is going ahead on Saturday, September 25, at 10am.
While organisers were unable to put the race on last year due to coronavirus regulations, and even had to cancel their annual Santa's tour of the town due to the emergence of the Delta variant, the events team is excited to be back with fun being planned for the rest of the year.
The race will be the familiar and usual format and while it will be held outdoors, people will be encouraged to stand a little further apart.
By the time the Advertiser went to print, the team has already finalised and divided up all the tasks required ahead of the event, including the clean-up of the burn to free it from debris – something already under way.
Ducks will be sold by the usual partners: Dollar's Deli, The Sorting Office and Brian Devlin's, as well as on the day by the team.
Stephen Leitch, from Dollar Community Events, told the Advertiser: "After the finish we'll have the usual family barbecue and that will be held outside The Hive, which is just yards from the finishing line of the race.
"We are all pretty excited about it, looking forward to getting it going."
Indeed, the race will be a great way of getting back into organising events for the team, who are already looking further ahead.
Plans are already being made for the fireworks display, expected to go ahead on Saturday, November 6.
And ideas are also being drawn up for the weekend of December 3 and 4, when Dollar Winter Festival is to go ahead.
Meanwhile, it is understood Dollar Community Development Trust is also planning a beer festival for October with more to be unveiled in the future as well.
More details will be announced closer to the time, residents can keep an eye on Dollar Community Events and Dollar Community Development Trust Facebook pages.
