PUPILS at a Tullibody primary school are getting into the Olympic spirit by taking part in the Travel to Tokyo challenge.
Staff and pupils at St Serf's Primary School walked one mile around the school playground each day as part of their journey to Tokyo, the host city of the Olympics this summer.
Walkers were sponsored and raised £1,467.96, with some of the money going to The Gate charity while the rest will hep to boost school funds.
Each class tracked their journey to Tokyo with a map and pupils were given the opportunity to learn about the different places they encountered throughout their journey.
The fundraising efforts were organised by teachers Iona Pearce and Emma Campbell.
Miss Campbell thanked all of the sponsors and congratulated all of the pupils who took part for their efforts.
She said: “We just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored us and say a big well done to all of the kids who took part.”
Miss Campbell told the Advertiser how the daily walks not only raised money, but helped to boost morale in the school during the pandemic.
“The kids really enjoyed it, it was a good way for them to stay fit and healthy but they also got to socialise with their friends”, she said.
“It was a nice because it was one of the only things that we could do together as a school, which really raised morale.”
The teacher explained that the St Serf's community is planning to do similar fundraisers in the future to celebrate more global events.
She added: “Obviously the focus of this one was Tokyo because of the Olympics, but the kids enjoyed it so much we are looking onto doing it again in the future, with potentially the world cup.”
