THE National Wallace Monument will be lit up today in celebration of Strathcarron Hospice's 40th anniversary.

The hospice and charity has provided palliative care for residents across Forth Valley since its establishment in 1981.

In addition to providing expert end-of-life care for people with conditions without a cure, Strathcarron is also involved in research and education in palliative care where it can influence care delivery locally and beyond.

In recognition of the work of the hospice, the monument will light up in Strathcarron's blue colours today, Wednesday, April 21.

Carol Beattie, Stirling Council chief executive, said: "Strathcarron Hospice has been an immense source of comfort for families across Stirling and Forth Valley over the last 40 years.

"Lighting up the Monument in blue is a show of gratitude from the people of Stirling to all the hospice's compassionate and committed staff for providing such incredible care and support to those in times of need."

Irene McKie, Strathcarron Hospice chief executive, added: "We are delighted with this gesture from Stirling Council.

"It has always been a great privilege for us to provide our service to the people of Stirling.

"After such a difficult year when our staff have worked so hard to keep services going and expand our community based care, it is a huge morale boost for them to have this recognition.
