A WEE COUNTY man threw "one of the worst tantrums" in a hospital that a sheriff has ever dealt with, a court has heard.
Adam Wilson hurled threats of violence and homophobic, racist and sectarian abuse at NHS staff, security workers and police within earshot of elderly and "very young" patients.
He raged after medical staff at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital told him that he was fit to go home and he would need to see his GP – rather than them – for further treatment.
Kristina Kelly, prosecuting, said: "It's understood the accused had attended in relation to a health matter.
"He did not take kindly to being told to see his GP, and shouted 'you are fucking joking' towards the doctor."
A nurse asked him to leave, and Wilson shouted, "Yous are a fucking joke".
She contacted security and shepherded Wilson into the corridor.
Ms Kelly said: "There he continued to shout and act aggressively in front of frail patients and other hospital users.
"This happened at 10.30 in the morning."
The fiscal depute said security staff then escorted him out to the car park and attempted to calm him down, but continued to use abusive language before punching a wall and repeatedly shouting "f**k the Pope".
Wilson then said: "I may as well kill someone and get arrested."
The security staff told him police had been called and he replied: "Snitches get stitches."
Ms Kelly said: "He began to sing a sectarian song that refers to a tin flute and included the words f**k the Pope and the IRA.
"The area he was in was near the children's waiting room – and the windows were open."
When police arrived he shouted: "F***ing Fe****s, what are you going to do about it, you speccy c***s?"
He aimed homophobic language at one office and after being arrested he used racist language towards another.
Wilson, 22, of Ashley Terrace, Alloa, pleaded guilty at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday, November 19, to using threatening and abusive behaviour, aggravated by racial, sectarian and homophobic prejudice on September 21, 2019.
Solicitor Murray Aitken, defending, said: "There's no logical reason for his behaviour, other than him being told he was now fit to go home.
"He had consumed a vast quantity of alcohol and Valium.
"He is embarrassed and ashamed of his appalling behaviour on this occasion."
Sheriff Derek Livingston told Wilson: "This was one of the worst tantrums I've ever heard of in a hospital.
"Were it not for the fact that you are a first offender the court would have no alternative but to send you to custody."
He sentenced Wilson to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work, and placed him under social work supervision for two years.
