TEACHERS at a Wee County school received praise after a “positive report” from inspectors.
Education Scotland said the headteacher's approach to improvement at Tillicoultry Primary School and Nursery Class has been successful in encouraging a team-based approach to securing positive outcomes for children.
During a visit in April, inspectors also found that the children were “very well-behaved” and were motivated in their learning.
The establishment received grades of “good” in all aspects and while some areas of improvement were identified – including the need to raise attainment and to develop clearer approaches to assessment – Education Scotland said it was “confident that the school, has the capacity to continue to improve”.
Councillor Les Sharp, SNP leader of Clackmannanshire Council, was happy to read the report.
He said: “I am pleased to see this positive report for Tillicoultry Primary School and Nursery.
“Well done to the staff, parents and wider community who work hard to ensure that our young people have the chance to learn well at the nursery and school.
“We are focused on raising attainment in all our schools in Clackmannanshire, and I know that everyone will be working hard to ensure that progress is made in the areas for improvement and that there is ongoing improvement throughout Tillicoultry Primary.”
Another strength of the school is that the youngsters have personalised achievement opportunities, which are extending their skills.
The report was also welcomed by fellow SNP colleague MSP Keith Brown who was “delighted” the school reached a positive rating.
He added: “I have no doubt that parents and carers of those attending the primary school will be delighted to read that young learners are very-well behaved and motivated learners in the care of professional and nurturing staff.
“This success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the head teacher, staff and young learners at Tillicoultry Primary School.”
