Alloa Athletic debutant Liam Lindsay was delighted with his baptism of fire as he helped his new side to a 1-1 draw with Dundee at Dens Park last weekend.
The talented teenager was instrumental in a sturdy Wasps defensive line and he reckons John Brown’s men might not have scored had it not been for Ryan Conroy’s controversial penalty kick.
The Partick Thistle prospect hopes the result can now be a turning point for Barry Smith’s men.
Lindsay told Advertiser Sport, “The team has been in a little bit of lull recently but hopefully now this result will be the turnaround for us and I am ready to do my bit to help the team climb up the table.
“I thought we were very unlucky to concede the penalty because it is a great challenge by Doyle where he wins the ball and I don’t think they would’ve scored otherwise.
“Having said that they maybe should have had one in the first half but the referee can’t just give them one to make up for that.
“Hopefully we can kick on from this result and produce another performance next week against Dumbarton.
“I really enjoyed it to make my Alloa debut in a game like this was a really special moment for me and even better that we got a result from it. They are sitting at the top end of the table so it was a great point for us to get because Dundee is such a tough place to come to and it was even better that the goal came in the last minute.” Lindsay was pleased to come through such a big test in his first match and hopes his experiences at Recreation Park can help turn him into a first team regular at Firhill next season.
He said, “It was a great moment for me because these are the type of games that you want to play in. The pitch was very soft and it was tricky conditions with the weather as well so we are delighted with the point.
“At Partick Thistle I only had my first team debut in the last game of last season and I have only had one appearance as a subtitute against Hibs this season, so it is important for me to come here to Alloa and get some game time under my belt and hopefully my experiences here will help me improve as a footballer so I can compete for a first team place at Firhill next season.” The 18-year-old admits he is delighted to be working under such an experienced defender in Barry Smith and hopes he can have a big impact on his progression as a player.
Lindsay added, “It is pleasing for me to come here to a good club who have been playing well this season.
“I have met Barry Smith and I am looking forward to working under him. Hopefully he can help me develop my game.”
