THE Clackmannanshire branch of the SSP was collecting signatures in Alloa for their petition to attempt to ban so-called ‘fracking’ in the area last weekend.

On Saturday (29 November) members of the branch put up a stall outside Ladbrokes in Alloa Town Centre appealing for signatures from around 11.30am till 1pm.

Following growing concerns over petrochemical giant INEOS’ plans to start extracting shale gas around the central belt, the group is petitioning Clackmannanshire Council in a bid to stop the plans.

Bryan Quinn, chair of the local SSP branch, told the Advertiser: “We got a lot of interest from people of all ages. A lot of people came over to sign the petition when they saw what we were doing. Many people feel very strongly about it.

“Fracking is a great example of what the SSP are against, profit at the expense of people. The big companies like INEOS will win while everyone else will be left to live with the consequences. People have helped to put a stop to this in other areas so we need to campaign and let our politicians know we will not vote for them if they do not listen to us.” The group will be collecting signatures at the same place and time this Saturday.
